January 2021 Three baby quilts

This is a panel I picked up from someone in the guild.  It's just a panel, but very cute.  I made my usual pieced backing from material I had, cut into large squares.

This baby quilt, I made from left over pieces of a  "Tumbler" patterned quilt I made last year.  That one was full sized, but this one is small.  I used the same pink toile fabric for the back of this one.

This is another panel I picked up from a quilt guild member.  I made the back from large squares of blue, yellow, orange and green from my stash.
This kind of thing is fun, satisfying, I enjoy doing the quilting on these small quilts.

January 2021 Baby quilt, finished for friend, Jan

I remember  years ago, just before my hearing and balance went, my friend Jan was working on this quilt.  It is made from pieces of regular cotton material and the yellow and white are Minky, that super soft, flexible, stretchy material that is wonderful to feel, but impossible to work with.  She had such trouble, sewing seams and taking them out because they stretched out of shape. A few weeks ago she asked if I could do something with it.  Luckily she had the center squares all finished and one of the intricate borders already sewn and attached.  So I knew what to do.  Of course all the ducks were already appliqued in place and the corner blocks were sewn and ready to go.  I put the blocks together for the remaining three borders by hand  basting each seam, then sewing them on the machine.  That way took longer but then I didn't have to unsew any seams.  The bottom piece of material is for a small border, and the back of the quilt.  Such a cute quilt!!!

Doll Clothes Jill's little girl has an American Girl Doll

We were talking to Jill on Skype while her little girl was playing with her American Girl doll.  We decided it would be fun if I made her some doll clothes.  My friend here had one of the dolls, so I borrowed it for reference.  My sister, Jackie, also had some patterns, she sent me along with some fabulous material to use.  The first three outfits along with the gray pants were from knit material, the very best stuff to work with in these small clothes.

This material is light weight denim I've had around for years.  It was perfect for this little outfit.  I'm glad I saved it all this time.

This white, lightweight knit made a cute dress and pant suit.  I added some gold trim from my collection because the dots on the fabric is golc

The material on this shirt has sequins, sparkly.  It was a good blouse for the brown knit pantsuit

This material is some Jackie sent me,  It is a kind of shiny, rubbery design and worked well as a pantsuit and a long winter coat.

This dress was from material Jackie sent, the top was just a small piece of fabric I was able to make a sleeveless top.  The skirt was about 6 layers of tulle that matched perfectly.  There was just a small strip of the tulle I thought would make a good "throw" for cold evenings out.

Wow!, this material is so pretty, and was hard to work with.  I made the long fancy dress and matching long coat.  I had this lovely beads, I attached at the neck for a necklace.

And last, Jackie sent this small piece of white fleece, for Pajama bottoms, I had the flannel for the top.
About 2 weeks of work on this, and it was fun.  Apparently, Jill's father-in-law was over and made her a little cabinet to hang her doll clothes in

November 2020 Christmas quilt small

My neighbor brought me this packet of Christmas fabric.  I couldn't resist and immediately cut the pieces up and put together this quilts.  At the fabric store, my friend Chyrrel was having a Christmas quilt show, so this was for that.

November 2020, Twin Size, "Two Triangles"

This is a pattern I'm so glad I found, I love putting random fabrics together, though this pattern would also work well with coordinated fabrics in a pattern.  I put closeups of some of the fabric pieces to show off some of the really fun materials.  I used mostly blues but there is also lavender, light green and yellow to add interest.  Each block is made with two triangles joined by a strip of white - thus "Two Triangles.  This quilt is for my little grandson who is getting bigger.

October 2020, Full Size "String quilt"

I've made several quilts using the strips.,  It takes awhile to accumulate enough strips of fabric left from other projects.  Sometimes I try to match colors a bit, making a quilt for a boy with blues or a girl with mostly pinkish strips.   This one is just random.,  The back I put together with squares of plaid.  I've decided I like to make the back with even squares, usually 11 inches instead of putting  pieces together like a jigsaw puzzle. Looking back, I saw another string quilt made from the same batch of strips - this is definitely a different one.   I showed this to Jill and she showed me her quilt I sent a while ago.  They've been using it to wrap up in on a cold winter night, for watching TV.  It's getting a little ragged.  So this one is for the Baldassanos.

2020 Museum Challenge Wall Hanging - "Hexies"

I've talked about this before.  The guild members are challenged to make a smaller quilt for the town Museum.  The display for the quilts is up usually all of May and June.  It is always a popular display with residents and tourists.  This year the museum was closed because of the (dreaded) Corona Virus.  We'll hopefully use these quilts next year when it's open.  This year's challenge was to make anything you wanted with the size 12" x 48".  I used the opportunity to make a "hexie" quilt.  You form a small piece of fabric around a hexagon paper pattern, basting it on and then hand stitching to the next hexie.  It's called "English Paper Piecing" and it's lots of fun but very time consuming.  I appliqued the edge to a strip of black fabric and hand quilted it.
