August 2019 Full sized "Graduation Plaid"

My friend opened a quilt shop in town.  She asked me if I would make a quilt from her fabric to hang in her shop.  This is to show a line of fabric and then maybe sell kits in this pattern.  It's a very pretty pattern and fairly easy to do,  I worked really hard to match up the points.  The double border added a nice touch.

5' X 5' string quilt from plaids

This is a string quilt made from some of my plaids.  A string quilt is strips of fabric sewn to a foundation of paper or fabric.  If  you use paper, you use light weight paper like from an old phone book and it's just to give you a form for the square or rectangle block.  When the pieces are sewn, you square up the block then tear away the paper.  On this one I used light weight muslin and it was left on the quilt.  It made it heavy so I didn't quilt it with batting.  I used plaid fabric squares for the back.  Kinda like using plaids this way.
